Dental Care During Pregnancy

It is a good idea to have a dental check-up during pregnancy, as the hormones in your body whilst carrying a child can affect your dental health and, more specifically, your gums.

Careful brushing of the teeth is essential as you are far more likely to have plaque build-up in your mouth when pregnant, and consequently are more susceptible to gum disease. Though gum disease has not been proven to directly affect the health of your baby, some reports suggest that the condition can lead to complications with pregnancy.

Ensure that, if you are pregnant, you notify your dentist of this as they will need to keep this in consideration when making any recommendations on treatment and future procedures. It would also be sensible to ask for the advice of your dentist on how to best take care of your oral health during your pregnancy.
